The Poet – A Poem

Are you a writer? A poet? A photographer?

This is a powerful poem by Christian Coulter The Poet – A Poem

As a writer (and a sometime poet and beginning photographer) I found this poem to be intensely moving. Because as the poet must write, so the writer must construct their prose. The photographer must hear their shutter close, to know they have been open to the world.

The lines “A face is not a face but a caricature; The eyes: the windows of the soul.”  made me think of those whose art is photography – who see the world not through their own eyes, but through the lens.

When you take the camera away, your view of reality is so different. But which of the two is truly reality: the lens view or the view your human eye beholds.

This is a powerful poem – do not miss it! The Poet – A Poem

Correction to the original attribution of the “The Poet – A Poem” on Stories My Nana Tells: The Author of this specific poem is Christian Coulter, rather than Colin Hope and we apologise for the error – which in no way diminishes the power of the poem – published as part of a joint collaboration between Christian Coutler and Colin Hope in 1993.
